Tuesday 23rd February saw Michael Mansfield QC and Yvette Greenway from SOS – Silence Of Suicide at the House Of Commons for a parliamentary reception run in conjunction with Network Rail and Samaritans.
This was a fabulously well attended event, which included the MPs Barry Sheerman – MP Huddersfield, Nigel Evans – MP, Ribble Valley , Luciana Berger, Labour & Co-operative MP for Liverpool Wavertree (Shadow Secretary for Mental Health) , Lord Mackay and Charles Walker, Con MP, Broxbourne , with additional speeches from Michael Mansfield QC and the Head of Network Rail.
The passion, concern and desire to keep battling against the most prolific serial killer in history, Suicide, was overwhelming and it was enlightening and uplifting to hear just how hard Network Rail have been working in conjunction with the Samaritans.
Michael and Yvette gained some useful contacts at this event and hope to meet up with both Julian Dixon from Network Rail , and also MPs Barry Sheerman and Charles Walker in the very near future to discuss the multi-faceted subject of mental wellbeing and how SOS – Silence Of Suicide can begin to reduce the 6000 (approximate figure quoted) suicides currently affecting our society every year.
