‘Talking In Mind’ is based on the ‘Improving Access to Psychological Therapies’ (IAPT) initiative, which is a joint project with Sandwell PCT and Sandwell Mental Health Foundation Trust. The team is based at Hawthorns House.
The nationwide IAPT service was established first in 2008 with the aim of improving access to evidence based talking therapies. The team use a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based interventions with clients such as cognitive restructuring and exposure therapy. Currently, we aim to provide between 6-8 sessions with clients, with each session lasting approximately 45 minutes to one hour. These interventions may be delivered in a range of different methods, including face to face, telephone, email and text message.
People aged 16 and above who are experiencing mild to moderate common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression can access the service. The service operates at step two of the stepped care model and referrals can be made by GP’s and other healthcare professionals.
