Social media has its ups and downs, and with it being so accessible these days, we often compare ourselves to influential figures and believe that we should look a certain way.

Make a list of your best traits; what makes you, you?

First things first, grab yourself a pen and paper and jot down all the traits that you love about yourself. You might find this a little awkward, but trust us when we say, it will definitely help you realise how awesome you are! If you struggle to do this by yourself, get your nearest and dearest involved, see what they have to say about you and what they think makes you special. We are all put on this Earth for reason and we all have our own unique traits, which make us, us.

Focus on your best achievements, no matter how big or small.

Many people find themselves focusing on the negatives and disregarding the positives. This is something we’re all guilty of doing, from time to time. But rather than looking at a glass half empty, look at it half full. It’s ok to acknowledge your wrongdoings and learn from them, but don’t let them get you down; don’t sweat the small stuff. Even the smallest of the achievements deserve recognition and praise, so bear this in mind for the future and recognise your strengths.

Focus on yourself, not the mirror.

We often find ourselves looking in the mirror and judging our physical appearance. It’s human nature to find flaws in the way we look, but why?  It’s time to start accepting ourselves the way we are, because everyone is beautiful in their own way, and the more you tell yourself this, the faster you’ll start to believe it.

Stop comparing, start caring.

Stop comparing yourself to others and start caring about yourself, because YOU are all that matters when it comes to self-love. We as humans waste so much time wishing we were different, but it’s time to change your outlook. Focus on you and how great you are, what impact you make on people’s lives and the joy you bring. The most important step to loving yourself is to recognise that you are amazing just the way you are.

It’s all about perspective.

Finally, start loving yourself by taking a step back and put your life into perspective. Your opinion of yourself is so important, but have you ever considered that the way you look at yourself is quite often the opposite of the way others are looking at you?
