With Us

Our volunteers are crucial to the success of the organisation. Without them, we would not be able to raise as much money as we do to help those in need.

Don't Just Take It From Us

We want every volunteer experience to be a great one and aim to make sure all of our volunteers feel valued for their contribution to their community, their peers, their colleagues, young people and throughout Kaleidoscope Plus Group’s services.

Questions About Volunteering

Becoming a volunteer may seem a little daunting.  Let us put your mind at rest – Kaleidoscope Plus Group are grateful for any time you can spare to help us deliver our important charitable activities and in turn, we will support you every step of the way as you undertake your voluntary role with us.  To start the process, we have listed a few of the frequently asked questions that many people have about volunteering …

No, none at all.  We invite you to our head office or invite you for a online informal interview for a short, friendly chat about why you want to volunteer and what you would like to do.  If we have something you would be interested in then we just look at how we can help each other!

Yes, very much so.  You will not be able to spot the difference between the many volunteers and the few paid staff we have.  Everyone is treated the same, respected and valued for what they bring to the charity.  It really is a great team to be a part of!

No, you can volunteer for as little as a few hours each week.  All we ask is that you let us know if you are unable to come so we can try and find a replacement.  We have volunteers who work between one hour and 20 hours each week.  Everyone is valued no matter how much time they give.

Only if you want to.  We have opportunities to work in an office, in our Sanctuary Hub, supporting residents at our residential care home, fundraising and events.  We also have more physically active work such as gardening, site maintenance if you prefer.  We have volunteers as young as 17 and as old as 65.  Some are fit and energetic and others may have disabilities or learning issues.  We value everyone for their individual desire to help others!

Of Course!  We have many volunteers who do more than one role and some who have changed because of preference or for personal reasons.  We want you to be happy every bit as much as the community we serve.  Just talk to us and we’ll be happy to help.

Only if you need it for your volunteer role.  You will be given an induction so that you feel comfortable in the building and with what is required of you.  This is informal and enjoyable.  Other training, including accreditation such as ‘Mental Health First Aid’ and ‘Plus Programme’ certification can be offered if it is considered mutually beneficial along side other training opportunities

Your welfare is monitored by the Volunteer Co-ordinator and will and were any questions or concerns you may have.  Your tasks and ‘day-to-day’ support is managed by whichever team you are in such as the Sanctuary Hub, Community team or fundraising and events etc.

Only if you undertake voluntary work with our services involving children or vulnerable adults.ᅠ This check is called a Disclosure and Barring Service [DBS][ check.ᅠ We pay for this check if it is needed. They check for very serious offences only and being an ex-offender does not rule you out of voluntary work with Kaleidoscope Plus Group

Voluntary organisations are obliged by law to have employers’ liability insurance to cover all volunteers and employees who are not family members. Employers’ liability insurance covers the cost of compensating volunteers and employees who are injured at or become ill through work.

No, you can work voluntarily for our charity as we do not pay a salary.  Travel expenses can be made available and each request is considered on a case-by-case basis.  We do advise that you inform your benefits’ office if you do take up voluntary work with KPG.

We will of course be happy to answer any other questions you may have – either by telephone, email or better still, by popping into the office where you can meet the team who will all be happy to help you.
