In June, The Kaleidoscope Plus Group welcomed Sandwell Academy student, Yashica Adakha, for her year 10 work experience placement.
Yashica worked with the PR & Communications Department and worked on many different projects such as writing engaging content for the charity’s social media platforms and managing our database and content management system.
Yashica found the work thought-provoking, but very rewarding.
She said: “On the first day I walked in, I felt nervous and slightly intimidated but as soon as I met everyone I soon felt welcome.
“The work I was set was very challenging and I had to be creative in regards to writing content for the charity’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
“Before my work experience, I didn’t know too much in regards to PR & Communications however I’ve now realised that it plays a massive part in an organisations success, especially a charity like The Kaleidoscope Plus Group.”
To give Yashica a feel for what the organisation does, she was also given the opportunity to work within a core part of the charity, Community Wellbeing.
The Community Wellbeing service focuses on delivering structures for supporting people to manage their own health and wellbeing, and to stay well; with much of the service based at our head office, Hawthorns House.
The Community Wellbeing service gave Yashica a real insight into the work The Kaleidoscope Plus Group does.
She said: “Attending the wellbeing groups showed me how simple arts & craft, cooking and baking can really help boost ones mood and enhance someone’s health and wellbeing.”
She added: “My week at The Kaleidoscope Plus Group is one I will never forget and will always remember fondly.
“All the people within the organisation do so much great work across the West Midlands, helping people who suffer with mental ill health.
“I would definitely recommend The Kaleidoscope Plus Group as a place of work, whether this be for work experience, as a volunteer or as a paid member of staff.”
Marketing and Communications Assistant, Anil Patel was very impressed with Yashica during her work experience and think she possesses a lot of talent.
He said: “Yashica has a great can do attitude and a will to succeed.
“She welcomes any task she is asked to do and always puts in 100% effort which is a great approach to have.
“I believe Yashica will go on to achieve great things in the future and Sandwell Academy should be proud of Yashica as she demonstrated she is a real credit to the school.
“On behalf of everybody at The Kaleidoscope Plus Group I would like to thank Yashica for all of her hard work during her work experience placement and wish her good luck in the future.”
