Our Community Wellbeing Service hosted a special Jolly Joggers group during Mental Health Awareness Week to help reduce the stigma attached to mental illness.
With over 30 people in attendance including Community Wellbeing’s Dave Pickard and Massage Therapist, Lynn Tandy, the joggers strolled across Walsall Arboretum promoting positive mental health and the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
The Walsall based group was also joined by coach, tutor and trainer from Run England, Christopher Hollinshead who ensured the runners were put through their paces.
Massage Therapist, Lynn Tandy played an instrumental role in organising the group alongside Wellbeing Services Co-ordinator, Dave Pickard who both felt it benefited those in attendance.
Dave said: “Promoting the importance of mental health whilst exercising was a perfect way to recognise Mental Health Awareness Week.
“Everyone who we engaged with, and all who came to the group, went away knowing a bit more about mental ill health and more importantly, how mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and neither is talking about it.”
The Jolly Joggers wellbeing group is aimed at anyone who wants to give jogging a go, wants to get more fit and be part of a group for support, motivation and encouragement.
Joggers meet every Monday evening from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Walsall Arboretum Visitor Centre.
