The Kaleidoscope Plus Group have pleasure in confirming Michael Mansfield QC’s role as a Patron for the organisation with immediate effect.
Mansfield, who is more recently known for playing a vital part representing 77 of the 96 families in the resoundingly successful Hillsborough disaster Inquests, was born in 1941 and educated at Highgate School and Keele University.
Called to the Bar in 1967, he established Tooks Chambers in 1984 and became Queen’s Counsel in 1989. Michael has represented defendants in criminal trials, appeals and inquiries in some of the most controversial legal cases the country has seen, particularly where issues of Civil Liberty have arisen.
Michael Mansfield QC is delighted to become a Patron of The Kaleidoscope Plus Group especially as he is a keen advocate of promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.
He said: “I feel very proud and honoured to have become a Patron of a charity that does such fantastic work both regionally and nationally which often goes unnoticed.
“Mental wellbeing has always been a concern of mine and this became particularly acute with the suicide of my daughter Anna in the spring of 2015.
“The stigma that attaches to this as well as mental health generally was brought home to me.
“My partner Yvette Greenway and I established a national initiative – SOS – a network of forums where people could gather and speak freely about their fears and worries.
“A natural ally in this project is The Kaleidescope Plus Group.
“Chief Executive at The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, Monica Shafaq has been hugely supportive and it is therefore a natural development to become Patron of an organisation which is representative of all our work together.
“The real hallmark of this alliance is the delivery of front line services to those in greatest need.
“For too long this area has been ignored or merely the subject of costly talking shop without end or action.”
Chief Executive at The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, Monica Shafaq was elated to welcome Michael Mansfield QC as a Patron of The Kaleidoscope Plus Group and believes his knowledge and expertise will prove essential.
She said: “I was absolutely thrilled to be able to welcome someone as esteemed as Michael to The Kaleidoscope Plus Group family as a Patron.
“With a combination of his skills and vast experience alongside his commitment and passion in everything he is involved in, I have no doubt Michael can help the organisation to continue move forward and create brighter futures together”
