2016-08-20-20.07.46On Saturday August 20, the family of Cara Keirl, who sadly took her own life on June 9, 2015 due to mental ill health, hosted ‘Purple Haze,’ a music event in the memory of Cara, at the ‘Frog and Fiddle’ in Cheltenham.

The evening of entertainment was fun for all with nearly 200 people in attendance, including SOS – Silence Of Suicide co-founders, Michael Mansfield QC and Yvette Greenway.

Performers of the event included indie power-pop group ‘Shoot the Moon’, and hit rap music group ‘Goldie Lookin Chain’ who brought the evening to a close.

A total of £3,203.01 was raised from ticket sales, refreshments and raffle tickets sales, with an additional £1,000 kindly being donated by Barclays Bank, which will all go towards SOS – Silence Of Suicide and The Kaleidoscope Plus Group.

The event helped to raise vital awareness of the detrimental impact mental ill health can have on anyone, no matter their age, gender or race, and helped eradicate the stigma around suicide.

Friend of Cara, Mark Moore, was instrumental in organising the music event, whilst Cara’s sister, Abi Keirl, organised an extravagant raffle which was drawn on the night. Both feel the event and raffle were a huge success and are extremely thankful for everybody’s support.

Abi said: “The Purple Haze music event in memory of my sister Cara was a fantastic evening, a party which she would have truly enjoyed, making it the perfect celebration of her life.

“Everybody who attended had a great night at the event, and I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart, my mum and dad – Cheryl Kenney and Graham Keirl, Mark Moore, Daniel Keicher, as well as all of the performers and those who came along and made it such a special celebration.

“Purple Haze raised over £4,100 which will go towards supporting people who suffer with mental ill health and in particular, suicidal thoughts.

“If this money can help just one person from suffering in silence and taking their own life, then it is a job well done and means all the hard work was more than worth it.

“We are looking forward to fundraising again for SOS – Silence Of Suicide and The Kaleidoscope Plus Group in the future.”
