We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who fundraised for us through the Walking out of Darkness event that was held in Birmingham on 6th May 2017. Collectively a huge £2,000 was raised which means that we will be able to deliver a further 40 ‘Safe Spaces’ suicide support groups across the Black Country.

We have been running the ‘Safe Spaces’ suicide support groups for a few years but with cuts to funding, it has meant that we have had to reduce the number of support groups we deliver. Thanks to your support and generosity we will now be able to deliver an additional 40 groups which support people affected by suicide, giving participants the opportunity to talk about suicide in an informal and safe environment. Groups are free of charge for those who have had suicidal thoughts, have been bereaved by suicide or for anyone who wants to learn more about the subject.

The funds raised will allow all the groups to be facilitated by qualified members of staff from our Community Wellbeing team who have the skills and experience to support anyone who might be affected by the discussions held within the groups.

Details of times and venues for these additional groups will be confirmed soon.

‘Safe Spaces’ is a vital support service and potentially helps to save lives!

Don’t just take our word for it – check out the video below which features Community Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Dave Pickard speaking with one of our service users about how he has benefited from the ‘Safe Spaces’ suicide support groups.

However, with demand for suicide support groups continually growing we’re still seeking vital funds so that we can continue to support more people who have been affected by suicide on a regular basis.
