A Supportive Men’s Group in West Bromwich

Lads Chat is a relaxed weekly group for men who want a place to talk, connect, and support one another.

Join us every Wednesday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Hope Place in West Bromwich for a welcoming space where men can come together, enjoy conversation, and spend time with others in a laid-back environment.

There’s no pressure to talk or share personal experiences. Some people come to chat, others simply enjoy the company and activities. However you choose to take part, you’ll always receive a warm welcome.

Why Lads Chat Exists

When it comes to mental health, it’s important that everyone has the opportunity to talk about how they are feeling. However, many men still face a stigma around discussing their mental wellbeing.

Societal expectations and traditional gender roles can make it harder for men to open up or seek support when they are struggling. While stereotypes about how women should behave can be harmful, expectations placed on men can also have a damaging impact.

This can lead to many men feeling isolated or unsupported when facing challenges in their lives.

In the UK:

  • Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.

  • Men aged 40–49 have the highest suicide rates in the UK.

  • Men report lower levels of life satisfaction than women, according to the Government’s national wellbeing survey.

  • Only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men.

  • Men are also more likely to experience homelessness, substance misuse, or go missing.

These statistics highlight why safe, supportive spaces for men are so important.

Let's Normalise Talking About Men's Mental Health

Men shouldn’t feel like they have to suffer in silence. It’s not ‘Manly’ not to talk about problems. It’s amazing how much talking can help.

A Relaxed and Supportive Environment

Lads Chat is designed to be informal, welcoming, and supportive. There is no set agenda or structured programme — it’s simply a group of men coming together to connect and support one another.

Some weeks you might find:

  • Good conversation and shared experiences

  • Games and activities

  • Social outings or trips

  • Opportunities to try something new

  • Plenty of laughter and friendly banter

Many of the men who attend have lived experience of mental health challenges, which helps create an understanding and supportive atmosphere.
